From the production of raw materials, milk and meat, to their transformation into value-added products and their subsequent sale to third parties or directly to the end consumer through food service and independent retail.
In summary, in the area of animal production, Grupo Barcelos includes Francisco Helvídio Barcelos, Maria José Barcelos and A Pastagem. In the area of food production (Meat and Dairy), the Group has Quinta dos Açores, while in the area of sales, namely through food service and retail, the Group has Quinta Experience.
Francisco Helvídio Barcelos
Francisco Helvídio Barcelos (FHB) is the oldest company in Grupo Barcelos and was founded in 1977 by Francisco Helvídio Barcelos himself. Since its creation, the company has been dedicated to milk production.
In the area surrounding the Quinta dos Açores headquarters on Terceira Island, Francisco Helvídio Barcelos has approximately 300 hectares of pasture and a herd ranging from 150 to 170 Holstein Friesian dairy cows, all of which have their own names.
Our cows live freely, in a free-grazing system, and produce an average of 5,000 litres of milk per day. The company has been certified by Certis for animal welfare since 2019, confirming our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of animal production.
Maria José Barcelos
In the area of animal production, Grupo Barcelos includes Maria José Barcelos, a company dedicated to beef cattle production.
The company was originally established when the Group began investing in the import of animals with high genetic value to the Azores. Later, it also became involved in the export of live animals and, today, is almost exclusively dedicated to beef cattle fattening.
A Pastagem
Also in the area of animal production, Grupo Barcelos includes A Pastagem.
A Pastagem is dedicated to raising purebred Limousin cattle certified for Carne dos Açores – Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). It is also certified in animal welfare.
At A Pastagem, our animals always live freely and feed mainly on pasture in a rotational grazing system. Calves remain with their mothers and feed on their mother’s milk for at least three months, and for as long as they wish.
Quinta dos Açores
Quinta dos Açores is the Group company responsible for processing our raw materials, Meat and Milk. It is also the commercial brand for our food products and our food service and retail concepts.
In the meat sector, we carry out the cutting and commercialization of Azorean beef and dry-aged Azorean beef. We also have a range of frozen meat products and a range of fresh meat preparations (Especialidades da Quinta).
In the dairy sector, we produce ice cream, fresh cheese, cottage cheese and mature cheeses.
Quinta Experience
Seeking a more direct connection with consumers, Grupo Barcelos created Quinta Experience, a company dedicated to the food service and retail.
